Who is this “Diner Dave” Fellow Anyways?
Diner Dave
I’m an avid diner that enjoys surfing the internet to restaurant coupons, restaurant gift certificates, restaurant reviews, menus and ANYTHING else that a diehard diner desires. As you can see I’m also a huge fan of alliteration. It’s important to note that I’m not a professional food critic, but I am a certified food-o-phile and self proclaimed “diner-saur” (yes I coined that term myself)! Because of my day job as a restaurant wine sales rep in Houston, I dine out at LEAST 3-4 times a week. In fact, I would guesstimate that I have eaten out 2,912 times in the last 14 years that I’ve been selling wine to restaurants (I started about 4 belt sizes ago!). In that time, I have traveled to 12 states and dined at every type of restaurant imagineable, from the finest white table cloth restaurants to the best burger and pizza joints. I’ve been told that I have a black belt in dining (and it’s getting tighter every day!).

In February 2002 I started a website called LunchDiscounts. com. It was a local Austin, Texas based website devoted to emailing lunch discounts from nearby restaurants - the restaurant managers were friends of mine. I launched the site with only 100 friends and family members as subscribers and a mere 6 restaurants with coupons. Within two years, the membership increased to 15,000 with over 100 restaurants emailing lunch, dinner and happy hour discounts! Since I offered more than just lunch discounts I decided to change the name to DinerDeals.com (catchy, right?). Over the last couple of years several members requested special sections with information on restaurants that deliver or they would ask me for reviews on the food. Every time I would add a new section to DinerDeals.com the members would ask for something else related to dining out at Austin restaurants.

After a favorable article was written in the Austin Business Journal, DinerDeals.com received national exposure. Twenty other business journals picked up the article and the phones were ringing off the hook! People in Philadelphia, Cincinatti, Houston, and all over the country wanted to know if DinerDeals.com would be coming to their city. So I decided to expand DinerDeals.com to Houston and Philadelphia. That’s when the wheels came off!
DinerDave.com Rises from the Ashes of DinerDeals.com!
“So what happened to DinerDeals.com?” you might ask. Well…even if you didn’t ask, I’m gonna tell you! DinerDeals.com was a professionally designed website (translation: costs a lot to maintain) with loads of links to restaurant and dining out resources. The problem was that it required multiple sales reps to sell email coupon advertising to the restaurants and web designers & programmers to maintain a user-friendly, interactive and professional website. In other words, it became too costly, cumbersome and confusing to maintain…especially in 3 cities! So I decided to scrap it and “keep it simple”.
After all, I am a simple guy who has a passion for dining out and I just want to share my tips, advice and secrets on how to “dine more & pay less” with other avid diners. What better way to do that than to create a blog and frequently update it myself! Voila…DinerDave.com is born!
